The University of Coimbra (UC), founded in 1290, is a public university whose mission spans education, research and knowledge transfer. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013, UC ranks among the world’s top 500 universities. UC offers 46 bachelor’s, 142 master’s and 79 doctoral programmes. Its research ecosystem includes 12 academic units and 38 research centres with ~2,100 researchers. The Department of Geography and Tourism at the Faculty of Arts delivers tourism education at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD and other courses) and partners with CEGOT—formally recognised in 2008—which unites 163 researchers. CEGOT’s Group “Tourism, Heritage & Territory” advances fundamental and applied research on tourism, leisure, culture and territorial development.

Carlos Ferreira

Assistant Professor and Director of the Bachelor degree in Tourism, Territory and Heritage, Department of Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. PhD in Geography (Regional and Local Planning) from the University of Lisbon. Member of CEGOT – Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning. Member of the Expert Group of the “Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation – Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality” for the Foundation for Science and Technology, 2018-2019. Member of the National Tourism Platform, a space for reflection, dialogue and action among all those interested in contributing to sustainable, innovative tourism.

Cláudia Seabra

Associate Professor and Coordinator of the PhD in Tourism, Heritage and Territory, Department of Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. PhD in Tourism from the University of Aveiro. Her research essentially focuses on the areas of Consumer Behavior, Safety in Tourism, and Terrorism and Tourism. She published several papers in international scientific journals. She is the Theme Editor on Terrorism at the International Journal of Tourism Cities and Review Editor of the Frontiers in Sustainable Tourism. She is the Vice-President for Western Europe of the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA). Member and coordintor of Line 3 Tourism – Tourism, heritage and territory of CEGOT – Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning.

Alexandra Pereira

Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra and Integrated Researcher at CEGOT (UC and UP) and Associate Member at TRIE (Lusófona Group). Assistant Professor at ISLA – Polytechnic University of Management and Technology, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal and Co-Director of the Tourism Management Degree Course. PhD in Tourism, Leisure and Culture from the University of Coimbra. Her research interests focus on touring and cultural routes, diaspora tourism, tour-guiding, tourist destination image, inclusive and accessible tourism, gastronomic tourism. She is a member of several organising and scientific committees for international conferences in the field of tourism. Member of the editorial board of several international tourism and hospitality journals.

António José Pinheiro

University professor since 2015 and currently assistant professor at the University of Maia, where he is responsible for several curricular units in the Masters in Tourism, Heritage and Development and in the Bachelor degree in Tourism. He is also the Coordinator of this Bachelor degree. PhD in Tourism, Leisure and Culture from the University of Coimbra. It has more than 20 Scopus indexed publications. His specific research interests are authenticity in tourism, cultural tourism, hospitality, hotel management, gastronomy and rail transportation. He is editorial secretary of PASOS. Tourism and Cultural Heritage Journal ranked Q2 in Scopus / Scimago. Member of CEGOT – Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning.

Senior Adviser holds M.Soc.Sc in sociology. He has participated in projects on competence-based curricula reform, recognition of prior learning, and university-business collaboration. He is working as an expert in a project developing a regional ecosystem for continuous learning in South-West Finland, where forecasting, university-business collaboration, and development of flexible and modular education is at the centre of attention

Susanna Saari

Senior Lecturer in the specialization of Tourism and Wellness Business, holds an M.Soc.Sc in Leisure and Recreation studies and is a Doctoral Candidate at University of Lapland, majoring in tourism research; her dissertation is about urban wellness tourism. Susanna has led several EU funded RDI projects and is a representative of Turku UAS at Turku Tourism Academy as well as a member of The Finnish Society for Tourism Research. Susanna has an active role onthe board of Skål International Turku (Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals) and is an honorary member of Aurajoki Junior Chamber

Telle Tuominen

Senior Lecturer, focusing primarily on teaching and project work related to tourism management, wellness services, marketing, and service design. She holds Master’s degrees in Economics and Philosophy. She coordinates the curriculum, teaching, and industry collaboration for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Tourism and Wellness Business. She has played an active role in several international and domestic development projects.

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) stretches over 400 kilometres on the western coast of Norway, and encompasses five campuses located in Sogndal, Førde, Haugesund, Stord and Bergen. HVL has approximately 1900 staff spread throughout these different locations. The four faculties host strong and innovative professional environments within health- and social sciences, engineering, teacher education, maritime sciences, nature sciences, culture and sports, social sciences, economics and management. HVL has a clear professional and working life-oriented profile, and with around 17.500 students, HVL is one of the largest higher education institutions in Norway offering Bachelor, Master and PhD studies across numerous fields.

Ove Oklevik

Ove Oklevik is a professor of marketing and tourism at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway. He holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Oslo and a PhD in Marketing from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). His main research interests are brand management, tourist behaviour, and event management. Ove has published in journals like Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, The Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism, and Event Management. Ove has extensive experience in managing externally funded projects.

Grzegorz Kwiatkowski

Grzegorz Kwiatkowski is an associate professor at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. He holds a PhD in business administration and his research focuses on the regional impacts of events and tourism, business ecosystems for food production, and innovation.Kwiatkowski has published articles in esteemed journals, including the Journal of Rural Studies, Event Management, Current Issues in Tourism, and the Scandinavian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality.

Helene Maristuen

Helene Maristuen is an Associate Professor in Tourism and the Head of the Bachelor Program in Tourism, Marketing and Management at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. She possesses professional experience in leadership positions within the tourism industry, including roles in destination management organizations, attractions and various projects. In the academic sector, Helene has developed various courses in the undergraduate program and the bachelor curriculum, lifelong learning courses as well as international exchange programs and Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs). She has also led several developmental and EEA projects. Helene’s research and teaching focuses on events, special interest tourism, sustainable destination development and entrepreneurship.

John Olav Brekke

John Brekke is a university lecturer at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. He holds a Master’s Degree in marketing and organization theory (Teacher Training) from University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), and also a business degree from BI (one-year program in Business Administration from Norwegian Business School Bergen).

Brekke teaches subjects such as Innovation and service, Event Management, Reputation and Strategic Communication, and Sustainable destination development. He is currently leading a project for the School of Business at HVL, focusing on bridging the gap between industry, municipalities, and education. He has broad experience as a tourism professional, both as owner (event company and consultant), manager and board member of businesses such as DMC, hotel and visitor Centre.

SEA Business Academy

SEA - Syddansk Erhvervsakademi

SEA Business Academy (SEA) is a regional public higher-education institution founded in 2008 with campuses in Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Tønder. Its mission is to deliver practical higher education at academy bachelor and professional levels. In 2024 it enrolled ~2,500 students across 26 full-time programmes and 16 continuing education offers.
Around 120 full-time staff support teaching, research and services across the three locations.
For 10 consecutive years, SEA has recorded the highest student satisfaction in Denmark’s business academy sector. It’s “Closer to” strategy means tight collaboration with students and local companies’ talent and upskilling needs. Stakeholders co-create current and relevant curricula for both full-time and lifelong learners. SEA has greatly expanded its educational services online, further adding flexibility to student and market needs over the past two years. The Service, Hospitality and Tourism department offers the AP degree program “Service & Experience Management” which offers a strong blend of theory and practice, required internships and hands-on research for its students and the industry.

Christian Dragin-Jensen

Associate professor at BASW and steering committee member of TourEdu. He holds a PhD from the University of Southern Denmark. Has worked for the better part of a decade in the hospitality industry on several continents. Strives to create stronger ties between academia, industry, and the public through research and business development projects. Board member of Danish Tourism Researchers. Advisor and sparring partner to industry and practitionerprojects, and speaker at industry events and conferences. He is the founder and leader of the Nordic and Baltic tourism education network, TourNord.

Mia Post-Lundgaard

Associate professor at BASW. Master of Science in Economics and Business administration and a Bachelor of Arts in International Tourism and Leisure Management from the University of Southern Denmark. Her main interest centers around destination management- and development with focus on local community involvement and governance structures. Mia has published and co-edited several educational books on topics within international marketing and tourism development.

Adjunct professor at BASW with a Master’s in IT Product Design from the University of Southern Denmark and nearly a decade of professional experience in software development and design. Teaches across digital design, web development, and software development with a common focus on user-centred design.
